Sometimes when companies can’t find the ‘perfect fit’ from a vendor they think that they should spend their time developing your own optimization software using MS Excel or something similar.
Software development may look simple from the outside but the vendors in this area have spent many years and who knows how much money developing their product.
Plus, their software has been applied (from your perspective that means tested) by many other companies before you. The feedback from this has been used to refine their products.
The idea that a company can develop a solution that is better and cheaper than an off-the-shelf solution is just plain wrong.
