Video Transcript
Hi, my name is Philip Slater and for the next couple of minutes, I’d just like to give you something to think about.
Here is a statement that some people might find controversial.
Improvements in your maintenance practices will not solve your spare parts management problems.
There you go, I’ve said it out loud.
Yes, maintenance are the typical users of your spare parts, but it doesn’t matter how good your maintenance function becomes, if you don’t have your act together in terms of your spare parts decision making, in terms of your spare parts process management, then you’re not going to get the outcomes that you need.
Now here is the good news, you can actually make major improvements in your spare parts inventory management without actually changing your maintenance activities. In fact, if you make the sorts of changes that you can make, you’ll have a positive impact on your maintenance activities because, you’ll have the spares needed, more likely when they’re needed.
So, think about what you can do with your spare parts inventory management in terms of decision making and process management and you’ll go a long way to improving your outcomes and maybe also improving your maintenance.
My name is Phillip Slater and that’s something to think about.
