The Spare Parts Management Comfort Zone: when you’re in that place where it seems like you know everything that’s going on, where you really can’t make any mistakes.

But comfort zones also have a dark side. In this short video Phillip Slater explains what this is.

The Spare Parts Management Comfort Zone

Hi, my name is Phillip Slater, and for the next couple of minutes, I’d just like to give you something to think about.

Comfort zones, aren’t comfort zones terrific!

You know, when you’re in that place where it seems like you know everything that’s going on, where you really can’t make any mistakes.

Or, if something does go wrong, well it’s got nothing to do with you, it’s not your fault, because you’re in the comfort zone. That place of assurance and self-assurance about what’s happening around you and in your world.

But comfort zones also have a dark side. Yes, a dark side to comfort zones.

And that is, that it means you’re unlikely to be improving. If you’re sitting there in your comfort zone then you’re unlikely to be trying things that will make things better, you’re unlikely to be putting things out there where something might go wrong, there’s a danger that there will be a mistake or an error.

But that’s the nature of improvement. Sometimes you’ve got to try things even if you’re not fully convinced at the start that what you’re going to try might be right. Sometimes you have to test if it’s right for you. If it’s right for your situation.

See that’s the thing about comfort zones, they limit our opportunities. They limit our perspective. They limit the way we can see potential improvement in our environment.

So, something to think about. Reflect on this, are you sitting in your comfort zone or are you trying to push those barriers and be just a little uncomfortable to keep making things better in your spare parts management world.

My name is Phillip Slater and that’s something to think about.
